SPEECH PATHOLOGY
“Your Words, Your World”
Speech pathology, also called speech-language pathology, is the healthcare profession that assesses, diagnoses, and treats communication and swallowing disorders. Speech
pathologists (or speech-language therapists) work with people of all ages—from infants to
older adults—helping them communicate clearly, understand language, and swallow
safely.
Here’s a breakdown:
1. Areas of Focus
- Speech: Problems with articulation (how sounds are made), clarity, or fluency (like
stuttering). - Language: Difficulties with understanding or using words and sentences, including
grammar, vocabulary, or social communication. - Voice & Resonance: Issues with pitch, loudness, or quality of the voice.
- Cognition & Communication: Challenges with memory, attention, problem-solving,
or social communication, often after a brain injury or stroke. - Swallowing (Dysphagia): Difficulty chewing or swallowing safely, common in
stroke, neurological conditions, or after surgery.
2. Who Speech Pathologists Work With
- Children: Speech delays, language disorders, stuttering, developmental disorders (e.g., autism).
- Adults: Stroke, brain injury, neurodegenerative diseases (like Parkinson’s), voice disorders.
- Special Populations: People with cleft palate, hearing impairment, or complex medical needs.
3. Goals of Speech Pathology
- Improve communication skills to help people express themselves and understand others.
- Support safe eating and drinking.
- Enhance quality of life, independence, and confidence in daily interactions.
Think of a speech pathologist as someone who helps your voice, words, and swallowing
work at their best, so you can connect with others and live safely and fully.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here you can find answers to the most common questions our clients ask about our services. This section will help you understand how we can support you and also explains the care and guidance we provide to meet your needs.
Speech pathology helps people who have difficulty speaking or swallowing. Speech pathologists work with individuals to improve speech, language, voice, and fluency. They can also support alternative communication methods, such as speech-generating devices, to help people express themselves effectively.
We provide services for a wide range of communication and swallowing disorders, including swallowing assessments and dysphagia treatment, augmentative and alternative communication support, social communication therapy, and general speech and language therapy. These services are available for both adults and children.
We support communication and swallowing for people of all ages. This includes speech clarity, language, literacy, voice, fluency, social communication, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and dysphagia. Our goal is to build skills and promote independence at home, school, work, and during mealtimes. We also assist with funding and ensure coordinated care through multidisciplinary team (MDT) case conferences.
We support anyone with communication or swallowing challenges, from babies to older adults. This includes neurodivergent individuals, people recovering from stroke or brain injury, those with progressive conditions, voice users, and people who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). A referral isn’t always required, though it may be needed for Medicare. We can also help you navigate funding through NDIS, Medicare (EPC), DVA, Workers Compensation, and private health insurance.
We support social communication skills, including reading cues, turn-taking, and starting or maintaining conversations, using simple, everyday strategies. We build capacity through parent and caregiver training and, when helpful, guide the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) options. Therapy can take place at home, school, or in the community, supporting independence and maximizing autonomy.
Our speech pathologists assess swallowing (dysphagia), develop tailored strategies and
mealtime plans, and collaborate with dietitians when needed. We focus on building skills for safer eating and supporting independence at home, school, or in the community. Our team can also help navigate NDIS, Medicare (EPC), DVA, Workers Compensation, and private funding, making the process simple and stress-free.
You can receive our services either in our clinics or in a location that suits you. This might be your home, at school, out in a public place, or even over telehealth. We aim to provide support in the most convenient setting for you.
Speech pathology can help provide tools and strategies for:
- Improving speech and language skills
- Safe swallowing and enjoyable mealtimes
- Developing lifelong communication skills
As a multidisciplinary allied health provider, we offer speech pathology services as part of a holistic care plan. Our speech pathologists collaborate with other specialists to deliver comprehensive, coordinated support tailored to each individual’s needs.
You can get started by submitting our referral form. If you have any questions or need support, our team is here to help—simply reach out via our enquiry form, and we’ll guide you through every step of the process.
Do you provide services under NDIS?
Yes, we can. However, we are not registered NDIS providers and cannot work with individuals who are Agency (i.e., NDIA) managed. If you are self-managed, plan- managed, or have a support coordinator managing your plan, then we may be able to help. Simply give us a call or book an intro call online to discuss your needs with us before booking.
How long will it take to feel better?
Change is a very individual process, and many factors can influence recovery. How quickly you notice improvement will depend on your symptoms, how long you’ve had them, the support you have, the goals you want to achieve, your motivation to change, and the skills you already bring to therapy.
It’s normal to experience fluctuations in your progress before seeing overall improvement. The effort you put into your treatment plays a big role in the outcome. For some, change can happen quickly, while for others, it may be a longer journey—but consistent work in therapy makes a meaningful difference.
