Provisional Psychologists have been approved by the Australian Health
Professionals Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to work with clients under the
supervision of more experienced psychologists. At Iconic Rehab, our provisionals are under the supervision of our senior psychologists. Whilst they are registered with AHPRA, they can’t provide rebates for Medicare or
Private Health Funds.

Our Provisional Team comes with a range of backgrounds and experiences. They currently offer services to clients from 13 years of age through to older persons. They are able to help with anxiety, depression, stress, interpersonal issues and other common problems people face. Rebates are not available for services provided by provisional psychologists.

No, you don’t need a referral to see one of our psychologists. However, if you are eligible to claim the Medicare rebate, you will need a referral and mental health care plan from your doctor stating the type of service and the number of sessions you are being referred for.

If you are coming for insurance reasons (i.e., workers’ compensation or Motor Accident CTP) then you will need prior approval from your case manager.

you are planning to use your DVA card (white or gold) as payment, then you will need a referral from your GP and prior approval.

Psychologists are bound by a Code of Ethics that protects your privacy. You have the right to choose whether to share information about your sessions.

At the same time, psychologists have a Duty of Care to ensure your safety and the safety of others. In rare circumstances—such as suicidal intent or child protection concerns—they may need to contact key people. This could include your doctor, the local hospital or ambulance
service, police, or the relevant child protection agency.

Whenever possible, you will be informed if this needs to happen and why it is necessary. For more details about the limits of confidentiality, please see our Privacy Policy.

By law, you have the right to access your file or request a copy. Please note that reasonable fees may apply for copying, collating, and viewing your file.

Your psychologist will usually ask that you make an appointment so we can explain the contents and answer any questions before providing the copy. In rare circumstances, we may not be able to provide a copy.

For more information, please see our Privacy Policy or the NSW Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002.

Before your first session, you will be asked to complete some standard paperwork, including a personal details form, questionnaires, and an information form outlining our service. When your session begins, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss the paperwork with your
psychologist and ask any questions.

Once the paperwork is complete, the first session typically focuses on you sharing why you’re seeking support. Your psychologist will gather background information to understand your situation and work with you to identify the issues and how therapy can help.

We offer a range of therapies and treatment approaches. The approach used will depend on your presenting issue as well as the training and preferences of your psychologist. All of our psychologists are trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), in addition to a variety of other evidence-based therapy methods.

No. We do not provide reports for family court matters or criminal matters.

Yes, we can. However, we are not registered NDIS providers and cannot work with individuals who are Agency (i.e., NDIA) managed. If you are self-managed, plan- managed, or have a support coordinator managing your plan, then we may be able to help. Simply give us a call or book an intro call online to discuss your needs with us before booking.

Change is a very individual process, and many factors can influence recovery. How quickly you notice improvement will depend on your symptoms, how long you’ve had them, the support you have, the goals you want to achieve, your motivation to change, and the skills you already bring to therapy.

It’s normal to experience fluctuations in your progress before seeing overall improvement. The effort you put into your treatment plays a big role in the outcome. For some, change can happen quickly, while for others, it may be a longer journey—but consistent work in therapy makes a meaningful difference.

Psychologists are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and complete university-level training that meets strict ethical and professional standards. They are specifically trained in human behaviour and mental health. Some psychologists undertake further training in specialised areas such as clinical, occupational, or developmental psychology. Clinical psychologists focus on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness using evidence-based approaches.

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialise in mental health. They can assess, diagnose, and treat mental disorders, including prescribing medication, and usually manage more complex or severe conditions.

Counsellors provide support for a wide range of life challenges. Counsellors can come from diverse training backgrounds, and unlike psychologists or psychiatrists, the title is not regulated in Australia. Many counsellors choose to register with professional bodies such as PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia), which requires certain standards of training, experience, and ethical practice.

Other professionals, such as Occupational Therapists and Mental Health Social Workers, also work in the mental health space and provide valuable support.

The most important factor is finding a professional who meets your specific needs and can guide you toward the best possible outcomes.
